I started a new photo project on September 15th the same day I started a new workshop called "A Year In The Making". We were challenged to do a 365 photo project during our year together in class. I hadn't picked up my Canon 7D in a long time and at first I thought no I can't do this so I will attempt to do a project 52 like I did a couple of years ago. But then I picked up my camera and just started falling in love with photography all over again. I am not a professional and don't want to be one at this point. I just want to take pictures and tell stories that someday maybe my children or grandchildren will be able to read or look back on and know exactly what I was thinking. I think often about what it would mean to have the stories that go along with some of the photo's I have from when I was small in either my mom or my grandma's voice. I don't want my girls to wish they could know what I was thinking I want them to know. So this year I plan to take a photo daily and then at least a few times each month post them here on my blog along with the stories that go along with them. I realize that all the photo's are not going to have stories but I'm going to try real hard to take photo's of meaning for the most part this year.
Day 1 - the beginning of my project life album for this year along with my chosen word to focus on.
Day 2 - Our current pet, Noah doodle. Actually he is Kayley's dog but since she still lives at home he's ours too. He goes to work with Kayley most days as she is a pet trainer.
Day 3 - We went to the Oakland Zoo and had a blast. This photo is my favorite from the day. Ron's been ill the last few years and unless he is sitting down he usually doesn't hold our Granddaughter Audi because he is afraid he will drop her. This day he had a great day the first in many months and he was able to horse around with her and hold her and it melted my heart. However the next several days he was down and still really hasn't had another day like this. I will treasure each day he has a good day.
Day 4 - Didn't do too much because Ron was down. These flower trees in our backyard are so pretty to me and they are usually kept trimmed and nice looking however they are crazy out of control right now because Ron hasn't been able to trim them.
Day 5 - Today started my story telling photo's. My dad was a brick mason from the time I was born until he retired a few years before he passed away. Growing up I used to tell my dad I wanted to be just like him and be a brick layer but he always told me no. He did let me use his tools and let me smooth out the joints of his work from time to time. When he retired he took his trowel and hammer and had them chromed. My mom Jeanne recently gave them to me and I will treasure them. I still remember the day he was working in my back yard building some pillars for us and Holly asked if she could help. He told her yes and then helped her lay her first brick.
Day 6 - My mom was a precious moment collector and this was the last piece she ever received. A close friend of the family Lionel gave it to her. The saying on it is "Lord I'm coming home". For years after my mom died I wanted to smash this piece but now it brings me comfort and I am thankful that I did not smash it.
Day 7 - I picked up my oldest Granddaughter Angelina from soft ball practice and asked her if I could take a quick photo of her. She said she didn't look good and I told her she is always beautiful. Her smile can light up a room and my heart. I asked her if she would like to start learning photography and handed her my Canon Rebel xti. She said she wants to learn so we will be practicing together a lot this year if I have my way. Love this girly with my whole heart!
I have a feeling this photo project will test me and help me grow in my photography skills this year. I am looking forward to it and also looking forward to jumping back into blogging about life and my crafts and who knows what else.
